Audition for Chora Nova

Chora Nova is a 40-60 voice mixed, auditioned chorus that rehearses and performs in Berkeley. Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings. The chorus is in its 12th season, and has been conducted by Paul Flight since its inception. Spring 2018 repertoire is Baroque sacred music by Hasse and Zelenka. The spring concert is on May 26 (Memorial Day weekend). The chorus will be accompanied for this concert by a full professional Baroque orchestra and will be joined by professional soloists. La Camerata Auditions

*Singers should possess a good ability to read music and familiarity with standard repertoire from all genres, both sacred and secular. Flexibility and dedication to minimal rehearsal, meaning time spent outside of rehearsal. Seeking choral voices that blend easily and are free of large vibratos.

*Experience in singing motet and madrigal music and experience with choral performances and the practices and details required.

Chorus member - all parts

Chora Nova, directed by Paul Flight, is a dynamic community of singers based in Berkeley, California. The group presents three programs each year, with performances in November, March, and May.
Chora Nova’s varied repertoire has included Western music, both familiar and rarely performed, from the seventeenth through the twentieth centuries: Vivaldi and Zelenka, Mozart and Michael Haydn, Brahms and Hummel, Britten and Coleridge-Taylor.
Chora Nova, an auditioned chorus, draws experienced singers from around the Bay Area.

Position is from September through June, annually
Thursday choir rehearsals from 6:30 to 8:30 pm
Sunday morning rehearsal at 9:00 followed by the 10:00 am Service
Additional services on Christmas Eve & Day, Ash Wednesday, and Holy Week
Pay is $65 per call – W9 status
Candidate must have strong sight-reading abilities
Also capable of singing, solo, duet, and quartet music
