Berkeley Playhouse Summer Camps

Berkeley Playhouse camps immerse students in the magical world of music theatre, with training in acting, singing and dancing. Students will engage in a multitude of art disciplines throughout camp, and will learn about many aspects of theatre-making (like prop construction, costume and set design). Students will learnchoreography and vocal performance techniques, in addition to acting instruction and direction by a seasoned Bay Area teaching artist/director. Our camps culminate in a final performance of work to share with friends and family.

Berkeley Playhouse Youth Company, Conservatory Programs

The Youth Company allows students from the Conservatory program the opportunity to participate in full-scale productions of the highest-quality with some of the best directors, choreographers, and designers in the region. Cast members of Youth Company productions receive ongoing training in Conservatory classes during the rehearsal period. Currently, the Youth Company is divided into two levels – Teen and Junior.

Letitia Berlin

I am a professional recorder player, teaching both private and group classes. I travel around the US and Europe to teach recorder workshops. I perform with the Farallon Recorder Quartet, the Tibia Recorder Duo, and Bertamo, a baroque chamber ensemble. I teach recorder at all levels and piano for beginners.

Summer Music Academy

Two levels offered, Beginning and Intermediate. Intermediate is designed for young guitar students to experience playing in a larger conducted ensemble. All students will participate in the large ensemble as well as smaller groups (duos, trios, etc.) Repertoire will be selected from the common practice period of classical music as well as contemporary arrangements of popular tunes.

Summer Music Academy

For intermediate to advanced students, this class is an exploration of different jazz styles, with a focus on improvisation technique and ensemble playing. There is a special need for musicians who play drum set, electric bass and piano. We provide drum set and keyboard. Placement is determined by teacher recommendation.

A Joyful Sound

A Joyful Sound! is our summer mixed chorus, open to all who love to sing. Families are encouraged to participate with their children. Singers receive training in voice, musicianship, and performance from master conductor, Jan Pedersen Schiff. There are no audition requirements. This is a 10 week session. We understand you may miss a few rehearsals due to summer travel plans. A rehearsal CD of your voice part is provided to assist you with learning the music outside of the rehearsal time.
