Portals showcases the work of a collective of six Asian American femme choreographers. Centered around the theme of transition, this mixed program highlights our varied stories, each piece probing what it means to be at the crossroads of change. The program is anchored by the piece, Two Doors, a choreographic study of the aftermaths of anti-Asian violence, first mounted in 2024 at the Mondavi Center in Davis. Two Doors ushers us on a journey towards relational vulnerability, opening the portal into an array of explorations on liminality. Performances of Portals are Friday, April 25 at 8:00pm and Sunday, April 27 at 7:00pm. The performance of Two Doors with a panel on Anti-Asian Violence with the UC Berkeley Asian American Research Center is on Saturday, April 26 at 8:00pm.
Portals is presented in part by the Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center and supported by the Division of Arts and Humanities and the Asian American Research Center at UC Berkeley. The director of the collective is SanSan Kwan. The additional choreographers are IuHui Chua, Lily Gee, Frances Sedayao, Stacey Yuen, and Tatianna Steiner.
