Get ready to snap your fingers and yell “Mambo!” along with Redwood Symphony and conductor Eric K in Catch It Tonight! Bernstein's kinetic Symphonic Dances from "West Side Story" evokes smoldering adolescence and the rhythm of youth.
In contrast, John Williams takes us back to the 60s in Escapades for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra (from the DreamWorks film "Catch Me If You Can"). Against a background of urbane jazz elements, the cat and mouse play between the alto sax, masterfully played by Michael Hernandez, and the orchestra perfectly captures the secrets and deception of the classic Spielberg movie.
Make sure to catch it on June 1 at 8:00 p.m. at Cañada College Main Theatre, Redwood City.
The program begins with Williams' Liberty Fanfare, followed by Aaron Copland's Suite From our Town conducted by assistant conductor Kyle Baldwin. Maestro Eric K. will precede the concert with a 7:00 p.m. talk on the evening’s music.
