Oceanica Ballet soars in a showcase of dances with themes of flight and retro Americana. Flying Colors features works by Oceanica Ballet Artistic Co-Directors Edgar Lepe and Robert Lowman. In a new work set to Gershwin’s “3 Preludes,” Lowman takes inspiration from the physics of flight. Lowman’s “Lark Ascending” juxtaposes moments of isolation and community in a meditation on the beauty of nature and the journey of “leaving the nest.” Edgar Lepe’s “Swingin’” takes a step back in time with vivacious dances set to 1940’s Big Band music.
